Moon Day

Today was a busy one!   We got up around 5:00 am, walked the dog, fed the dog.  I made a couple of fried egg sandwiches for breakfast, showered and shaved.  Then we got into the truck.  

We went to the Walmart at Shiloh Crossing where I got a couple of cases of bottled water, some sliced ham lunch meat, and a package of strawberries.

Next we went to Hexatech.  We met Meredith there and we had to unload Tool 15, and then we had to reload it with more parts for hard sintering.  She left for an hour and a half while we were vacuum pumping it out.  I unloaded soft sintered parts from Tool 14 and then put it into Standby.

Bob came with me, but he stayed at my desk solving Sudoku puzzles on his tablet computer.  I got some bottled water and a snack of strawberries and pecans for him.

After we finished with the furnaces, I had to write the Post-Run Analysis Report for Tool 15 and email that to Jeff and Keziah.  Finally, after three hours of overtime, it was time to go.

We drove to Cary and got a small lunch from the McDonald's drive-thru.  Then we went over to Best Buy to get a new impact cover for Bob's iPhone 11.  That cost about $14.

Next we went to the Whole Foods store in Cary.  Bob had ordered a cover for the phone from Amazon.com, but when it arrived it was the wrong size.  So we had a return to drop-off.

Finally, we drove to the Food Lion in Apex to get our weekly groceries.  These are home and put away now.  

I made a sandwich for tomorrow's lunch, laid out my clothes for work tomorrow, and now I am trying to enjoy what little is left of my weekend.

Repaired

Rejoice!  The dryer has been fixed!  Service technician named "Ivan" came out, opened up the dryer, replaced a sensor and the heater.  He cleaned out the duct and fan.  He said that a Samsung heater will last from 3 to 6 years.   Ours is 5-years-old.  He cleaned out my credit card too - $427.00 for the service.

The inside of the unit had a lot of moisture so we have the door open with a small electric heater gently warming it up.  It should be good to go tomorrow morning.

I am glad that tomorrow is Friday, but this weekend will be even shorter than usual - I have agreed to go in on Sunday to unload the hard sintered parts, and reload the furnace.  It will be overtime, and because of expenses lately, the extra money will be helpful this month.

Samsung Dryer

 

Our 5-year-old Samsung Moisture Sensor electric clothes dryer went on the fritz last night with a load of wet clothes in the drum.

The dryer would only run for a few minutes and it would stop.  All of the lights were lit on the control panel with the 60 Minutes light and the Normal light flashing.  Kevin and Marrissia said that this is an error code, but you need the service manual to decode the error message.

The drum turns and air circulates, but it does not heat up.

Kevin said that it could be the thyrister or the heater.  He told me how to get inside to check, but honestly, there are so many screws and you have to take the top off of it, and then take the front off of it.  I could take it apart, but I don't think I could reassemble it!

I pulled all of the wet clothes out and put them into a basket.  I took them to the coin laundry on Highway 55 behind the McDonald's.  It was as hot as the flames of hades in there!  It was staffed by a delightful little Mexican lady.  I had not been in a laundromat in 10 years, and you know what?  Nothing has changed.

I had enough change in the truck to run two dryers.  One ran for 15 minutes and the other one ran for 20 minutes.

Now I have to get a service agency in here to troubleshoot and repair the dryer.  Hopefully it will not be as expensive as I fear.

Homemade Paperback

I printed out GIS Basics by Stephen Wise with the intention of binding it into a paperback.   

I collated all of the pages and clamped them together with two strips of wood and two wood working clamps.  I pushed the stack of pages to one side and brushed on PVA glue (Elmer's Craft Bond), pushed the pages in the other direction and brushed more glue on.  Then I let it dry overnight.

The next day I brushed on more glue.  I cut up a file folder to make a paperback cover.

That evening, after work, I brushed glue into the spine of my new cover, pushed it onto the spine of my text block, wrapped a piece of scrap paper over the spine, and clamped it with paper clamps  This dried overnight.

Finally, I used my label maker to print the title on the cover and the spine.

The top and right side edges of a little rough.  I would like to get a bulk paper trimming guillotine to trim everything completely flush.

The book opens and lays flat.  I am not sure how durable this book will be, but it should hold up long enough for me to read it and use it.

I got the idea to make a paperback this way after watching some youtube.com videos about book binding.  I would like to find a suitable text and try making a hard cover book too.

Independence Day

I am glad this was a short work week.   It was exhausting.

After work yesterday I returned my Kia Soul rental to Enterprise Car Rental, and they gave me a ride down to Caliber Collision where I was reunited with my 2025 Ram 1500!

I had to pay the $250 insurance deductible to Caliber.  They will collect the balance of the $5500 in costs from USAA.   USAA will invoice Geico for this, and when Geico pays, my deductible will be refunded.  I took my Enterprise receipt and submitted a claim to Geico for car rental too.  It will probably take weeks and weeks for everything to be settled.

Anyway I have my truck back and it looks very good!

Today we grilled hamburgers, brats, and ribeyes on our grill, and we flew the flag. 

It was hot July 4th!
