Well, I now have all of the capital orders that I had requisitions for, placed with the vendors. Very busy week for me ! Tomorrow I can start to update the Bid Comparison Spreadsheet and troubleshoot some of the items A-P is bugging me about.
Depending on how you add the numbers, Betsy's cost savings come to somewhere between $250k and $586k. Her goal is $600k. I still have to go back and look at all of the pricing increases, because in some cases it might pay to claim "cost avoidance" instead of cost savings. I think we can reach her goal.
In world news - magnitude 9.0 earthquake off of Sumatra caused tidal waves all over the Indian Ocean on Sunday. Atleast 44,000 dead. I guess the USGS knew the waves were coming and desperately tried to warn those countries affected, but the people contacted did not know the USGS personnel and ignored the warning, or if they believed the warning, did not have any way to warn the people living along the coasts. Governments move slowly, disasters can unfold rapidly.
Way past time to get out of here.

This morning was very cold. 36 F when I left for work. By lunch time it was in the 60's.
Very busy day today placing the orders to Garland Commercial Range. Telephone ringing alot. Problems seem to be piling up faster than I can fix them. Some girl name Joelle in AP keeps giving me problems to fix too. Someday I will actually have time to give those issues some attention. Tomorrow I will place all of the Vulcan Range orders and the last couple of refrigerator orders and that will be all of the orders that I actually have requisitions for now.
Ana's husband, Edgar, had a pinched nerve in his back so bad he could not walk, he was crawling. Ana made an appointment for him at Dr. Dong, a Chinese accupuncture practitioner. I guess Edgar's pain relief was immediate because he is walking again.
Ana and I went to Bennigan's for lunch. The whole building was very quiet with almost everyone on vacation.
My January 2005 issue of Wired magazine came in the mail today. That is my favorite magazine.
"Support Our Troops" is a wonderful patriotic slogan. But the best way to support troops thrust by unwise commanders in chief into ill-advised adventures like Vietnam and Iraq is to bring them home. Rained all weekend. Rainy and cold. Stayed in all day Christmas Day because all of the stores were closed and the weather was so miserable.
Dad called Christmas Day and thanked me for the calendar. Talked about Dick and Clara and the boys. He told me that Mike went to prison for trying to kill his grandfather for the inheritance ! What a soap opera !
Lastnight I went out. I bought a tank of gasoline and went to Orlando. Up on I-4 there was a bad car accident. Westbound traffic was backed up for miles... Eastbound traffic backed up because people would slow down to rubberneck at the accident. A van and a car were involved. The car had its roof torn off. The Jersey barrier was messed up too !
I wore my Christmas stocking cap out and had more fun making "Santa" jokes. I guess I really had fun because I stayed out until 2 AM. Had to becareful coming home because of all the cops.
Bringing the truck down the on ramp to the Florida Turnpike she was sliding to the right... roadway was slippery from the hours and hours of rain. Had to keep that inmind for the last few miles of my trip.
Today I went to Target. It was not the madhouse I imagined it would be. Oh, it was crowded, but it was well-managed. Got some socks, a shower curtain liner, some diet soda, and bleach. Came to $20, but the $15 gift card made it $5 out-of-pocket. Went to Jo-Ann Fabric to get a plate hanger for my deviled egg plate. They had one, but it is not adequate. I am going to have to store the plate under the counter I guess.

Christmas Day
On Thursday everyone left in the office began to take down Christmas decorations. Dawn started her vacation and so did Matt. Peggy and Betsy will be on vacation next week and will not return until after New Year's. I will have to place the Garland and Vulcan orders all myself, but Betsy gave me her cellphone number to call her if I have questions. After that I have to update the bid comparison worksheet with more revised vendor prices.
We are donating our Christmas cards to a school for special children so they can make crafts with them.
Ana and I will be the only ones there next week.
Yesterday it got kinda cool outside and rainy. The moisture makes the cold even more penetrating. I burned a few copies of my flash website experiment into mini-CD's and mailed them to Mom, Dawn, and Jason. We will see what they think. Got a card from Dad. He said the calendar I made was the nicest thing anyone ever gave him.
Began work on my resume yesterday too. I did alot to it, but it is still not quite where it needs to be. Want to have that ready early next week so that I can e-mail it to HR and the other people hiring buyers.
Lastnight I did go to the Full Moon. I was hoping it would be busy, but business was actually very weak. I was home by midnight.
It is raining right now. I can hear the water coming down the downspout outside the window. It is going to be a cold, wet day. One of my goals this weekend was to wash and wax the truck. Good thing I did not bother! I have House of Blues cornbread in the oven right now. On the next shelf up is a canned ham that I poked full of whole cloves and rubbed down with brown sugar. I am going to heat some Bush's baked beans up when those are ready, and I think that will make a nice holiday meal.
After the meal I will take the remainder of the ham and put it on my food slicer and slice it up for sandwiches for lunch. We will see how well the slicer works and we will see how much bother it is to clean it after we are done.
Probably clean the kitchen and bathroom floors today and vacuum. Tomorrow I have some shirts to iron. This afternoon I will mess around with some more Flash projects. I will go to the Moon tonite. Last Christmas I went out and had a good time. They had dancers on the bar and they will do all kinds of things for tips. The rumor was last year that I nearly circumcised one of them with my teeth ! LOL !
If it is dry tomorrow it would not hurt to change the oil in the truck either. Just over 102k miles on it now. Still not giving me any trouble.

First Day of Winter
Today is the shortest day of the year. Winter began at 0742 this morning. Now the days will get longer by 2 minutes per day everyday until June 21. It was chilly when I got up this morning. I guess it got down to 38 F lastnight, and it was 66 F in the house this morning. I just stayed under my covers until the alarm went off.
When I came in yesterday morning I found a card on my desk from Matt Thursam. He got me a $15 gift card to Target for Christmas ! That was nice of him. I still need to wrap the little things I got for the girls here in the office.
Yesterday I learned at the FF&E staff meeting that Dave Myrabo is interviewing someone from FAM for Harry's position. So I have been encouraged to get my resume to him. I will have to radically redesign it first. Also, I learned yesterday that Ronelda has not returned to her job. So, there will be an opening on the Technology Team also. Maybe I will send a copy of the resume to Lindsay Johnson as well.
Lastnight I found a Christmas card from Tony Schlim and Roger Smith, and a card from Aunt Rosie. Rose sent a picture of another second-cousin - Liam Kline. She didn't say whose it was, but like any grandmother, she is proud.

I have to capture the price of the item as well as the tax and freight so that Betsy can get an accurate cost-savings. Placing these orders will probably continue into next week while Betsy is on vacation. I have her cellphone and will not hesitate to call her with my questions.
Andrea just called. We are having lunch at Cheesecake Factory tomorrow around noon at the DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney. I know they have good salads there.
On the trudge home I was stuck in traffic on 192 when a four-engine World War II bomber flew over making its approach to Kissimmee Gateway Airport. It was a B-29 Superfortress ! I wonder if it is just visiting or if it is going to be part of the warbird museum there.

When I got up this morning I made a big omelet with asparagus and sliced black olives and cheese in it. Two slices of Canadian bacon. That kept me full almost all day.
Explored some popular Flash websites and got some more inspiration. I found this one guy's site where he makes Internet toys with Flash. He made some movies of animals walking and running. He used the high-speed photographic images of Muybridge, and traced each frame. They are very convincing. He had a cat and an ostrich. I am going to poke around the Internet and see if I can locate more of them.
The tub got scrubbed today. I sprayed it down with Dow Tub and Tile cleaner, got my scrub brush, got naked, got in, scrubbed it down good, and then started my shower. Got myself clean and rinsed the tub and shower enclosure at the same time.
Around 4 I called Mom and talked to her for awhile. She called Dickie and Clara and talked to them as I asked her. I guess Dick is bad off. He has diabetes, emphasema, and congestive heart failure. Hospice comes in and looks after him. Clara is not sure she is going to have enough money after Dick is gone. Jeff and Mike, their sons, were fun cousins as we were growing up. I remember Clara would bring us pretzel sticks when she came over. Dickie and Clara would come to our house and play cards with Mom and Dad.
This evening I went to the Full Moon Saloon. It was nice. Whenever I am having ego problems and I feel like I need to be worshipped and adored, I go to Full Moon Saloon and I usually get what I need. Joe was tending bar inside this evening. Temps started to fall early. I walked next door to P House. As I was leaving I recognized a guy from the gay.com chat room. This guy named Gary. I walked up and introduced myself and we (him, his friends, and I) had some friendly chatter. Thank God I was not so drunk that I could not be witty and defend myself !
Not sure how cold it is supposed to get tonite, but the sky is clear, so I am sure it is going to be low. Tomorrow night is supposed to be even colder.

It was very cold lastnight. It even got kinda cool in my apartment. I slept with lounge pants and a t-shirt on lastnight. I dug a couple of sweaters out of my Rubbermaid bin and tossed them into the dryer to get the mothball smell off of them. Wore the sweater made with alpaca wool to work today. Ana and I had an arguement about when they shear the alpaca. Ana looked it up on the Internet. Turns out they are sheared in June so that they will not suffer through the heat of summer and they have time to grow their winter coat.
At lunch today I went to Red Lobster across 535 in Crossroads Center with Frankie, Lynette, Marta, Ana, Andrea, and Glenn. Yet another Glenn Sing send off. This Glenn Sing Final Tour is lasting longer than Cher's !
Quiet afternoon in the office. Getting Ana's door display ready for judging tomorrow morning. I am sure we will have alot going on tomorrow because Betsy will be back.
Tomorrow afternoon the department is having a Glenn Sing farewell party. Then after work a bunch of people are taking Glenn to Orlando Ale House for drinks. Almost bizarre. I dunno.
In other news. . . . I got the CD version of Version 4.1 to go full-screen when it runs. I was considering making an XML-driven heirarchical menu system, but the tutorial for it runs for 10 pages and the actionscript and XML are very involved. I don't think I'd better use something so complex I have trouble understanding it. I am going to redesign the site again soon as a series of movies that load into a foundation movie and the dynamically loaded movies will pull their content in from text files, or in the case of the photos, pull picture files and captions in with XML help. Use the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid.
Well, time to forward my sent e-mail messages to Matt and get this closed up so I can go home.

Busy all morning and for a few hours after lunch. Got all of the change orders done, new orders placed. Then went to Subway and got a sandwich. After that I went to Disney University to Access Control to get a new ID card made. That was done in 10 minutes. This one is good until 28 February 2005.
After lunch I finished putting the improved pricing in for FER which is good for the next two weeks only. Then I revised Betsy's cost savings info. Now I just need to generate an Open PO Report and send it to Holli Hall at Edward Don.
I called Andrea to see if Ronelda returned. She did not. Surprise there.
For some reason I just don't understand some people. If you are being ignored you would take that as a hint and understand that that person has lost interest in you. Why would you e-mail that person and lecture them about what a bad and evil person he is? What good is that going to accomplish? Is that just another attempt to get attention? I dunno. Then he tells me that I should be upfront with people. Now I find out that all he wanted was a romp in his hottub and a rubdown... well, THAT certainly is upfront, but he really could have just told me that in the beginning. If that was all he wanted, we could have gotten that out of the way weeks ago and moved on already. Anyway.
Those Christmas gifts I got for the girls in the office need to be wrapped up. I might do that tonight. I will pass them out on Friday.

It was pretty cool today and supposed to get very cold tonite. I have not run the AC since Saturday and it is still comfortable in here - about 75F right now. If it gets cold tonite I have another blanket at the foot of the bed I can just pull up.
Kerry McPherson got my access extended to 28 February at DC-2. I just have to go over to DU (Disney University) and get a new ID card made for 2005.
At lunch today I went to Team Disney. We had a little going away luncheon for Glenn Sing. Rich was pleasant with me. He noticed the mini disc I had with the Flash on it and asked about it. He mentioned something about having a little wrestling website and said something about maybe me doing something with it. An improved website for "The Perfect Creation"? Hmmmmm.... Anyway, the compact disc with my Flash projector file in it works on computers at work now. It is in good enough shape that I could make copies and mail them to relatives to read it.
Andrea brought Jamaican Jerk Chicken and rice with pigeon peas, Jerry brought corn souffle, Joe brought corn bread and some beans and rice, and I brought French Green Bean Casserole. We had a nice time. Bessie and Ruth, the secretaries crashed our party and ate with us. They found our food to be very spicy !!
Then back to DC-2 to get some work done before Jon Ownbey's going away party at 4. They bought Jon's wife and two little boys in for the surprise ! I know he was very surprised. He is returning to Idaho and school.
I guess Betsy is in the air on her way back to Florida. She is in the air now and won't be in Orlando until tomorrow night, our time. Those long dry flights can take a toll. She is going to be out on Thursday because she will be getting ready for her 30th Anniversary party with Disney. She will be in on Friday, and four days next week, then she goes on vacation. She will be back in Hong Kong again before she knows it.
When I got home I saw Mercedes trying to put blue plastic tarps up on her patio to protect her plants from the cold tonite. It is going to be very cold too - the sky is perfectly clear, the coldest nights are clear nights. We talked for about 30 minutes. It is always an awkward half-English, half-Spanish kind of conversation. She invited to go to the Catholic Church with her on Sundays even though I would not understand a word being said !

It was pretty cool today and supposed to get very cold tonite. I have not run the AC since Saturday and it is still comfortable in here - about 75F right now. If it gets cold tonite I have another blanket at the foot of the bed I can just pull up.
Kerry McPherson got my access extended to 28 February at DC-2. I just have to go over to DU (Disney University) and get a new ID card made for 2005.
At lunch today I went to Team Disney. We had a little going away luncheon for Glenn Sing. Rich was pleasant with me. He noticed the mini disc I had with the Flash on it and asked about it. He mentioned something about having a little wrestling website and said something about maybe me doing something with it. An improved website for "The Perfect Creation"? Hmmmmm.... Anyway, the compact disc with my Flash projector file in it works on computers at work now. It is in good enough shape that I could make copies and mail them to relatives to read it.
Andrea brought Jamaican Jerk Chicken and rice with pigeon peas, Jerry brought corn souffle, Joe brought corn bread and some beans and rice, and I brought French Green Bean Casserole. We had a nice time. Bessie and Ruth, the secretaries crashed our party and ate with us. They found our food to be very spicy !!
Then back to DC-2 to get some work done before Jon Ownbey's going away party at 4. They bought Jon's wife and two little boys in for the surprise ! I know he was very surprised. He is returning to Idaho and school.
I guess Betsy is in the air on her way back to Florida. She is in the air now and won't be in Orlando until tomorrow night, our time. Those long dry flights can take a toll. Osceola cattle
This is typical of what you see when you take the Florida Turnpike across Osceola County.
Today I went to the drug store, the grocery store and I got laundry done. Not much else.
At the grocer I got a canned ham and some zero-calorie brown sugar and whole cloves. That will be part of my Christmas dinner.
At Walgreens I got vitamins and a pedometer. This one actually works, unlike the cheap-ass shit you get at McDonald's when you buy a salad.
Put a copy of my website on a mini-CD and put a script on the CD to make the Flash projector file play when the CD is put into the computer.

Another extremely busy day today at work. I pulled away long enough for a 90-minute meeting with Greg Moore, but even that was about food service equipment standards. Ended up working right through lunch. Meant to take a walk around the DC-2 building, but the phone kept ringing and I just kept busy. At 3 PM Ana was supposed to walk with me, but I guess she forgot, so it just did not happen.
Everyone left right at 5, but I was still trying to 'wrap' everything up for the day. So I said, "Fuck it. If I am going to get out of here late, I may as well wait for the traffic to settle down!" So, I stayed and read all of the news, Molly Ivin's column, Wired.com, and I found this interesting link in a Wired story - http://www.flickr.com. I went ahead and set up this page with some pictures of me. What I like about it is, you can supposedly host your pictures here for viewing on a blog.
As a test of Flickr, we are going to show a picture of Vince getting dressed up for Halloween. You should have seen this photo at the top as you scrolled down.
At 6 PM I gave Betsy a phone call from work (on Disney's dime). She was finishing breakfast and getting ready to catch her bus to take her to the train to take her to work at Hong Kong Disneyland. She is feeling better since she got some antibiotics in her. Had a lot of bid stuff to discuss with her. She is confident that I have everything on this side of the planet under control.
Past few days I have been plagued with little nats or silver flies. Not anymore. This morning as I was leaving for work I set off a roach and flea bomb in the kitchen. Now there is not a single one of them to see seen ! I figured anything strong enough to kill roaches will probably kill any insect ! LOL !

Whew ! Today was a very long day ! We spent a little more time decorating the office today. I am taking my Christmas cards to work and hanging them on my office door. I would spend more time admiring them at work than at home anyway.
Still have not placed the first capital order yet. Betsy gave me the bids for three more vendors this morning so I had to enter those dollar values into the spreadsheet. Still waiting on two more vendors. Miscellaneous questions that Betsy needs to answer that if she were here would be no-brainers. Hard to get things done when you are constantly interrupted by the phone and the e-mail.
For lunch I had a large salad and some brussel's sprouts and a pear. I walked around the DC-2 building too (I think that is about half a mile). Spent some time reading MSNBC opinion columns and Molly Ivins' column from December 2.
I already know that there are a bunch of new orders in Betsy's queue for tomorrow. Her customers are so spoiled. They cause so many problems and then it becomes my job to sort it all out. I push back. Today Petra Dachtler at Corporate Alliances wanted me to add a line item to their PO for chip carts. I told her to route a new requisition for it and I will apply it to the PO as a new line. She then acted like she had no idea what I wanted. I don't care. That is NOT my job, I have helped them with this more than I should have already, and I am NOT writing one more damned line into that God-forsaken order.
This evening I went to International Drive and found Dan. He had a couple of old friends come down from Daytona Beach too and then we all went to Bahama Breeze for dinner. Long wait for a table. The waiter, Cameron, came and got us a table pretty early. You could tell that he was a gay boy (even a picture of his boyfriend on the pad he wrote the order on!). Anyway we left him a healthy tip for his good service. After dinner we walked around the Orlando Pointe shopping rip-off. By the time I left Dan it was after 10PM ! Now it is approaching 11.
Started reading Miguel de Cervantes Don Quixote. I have already read three chapters into it. Cervantes was pretty talented ! It is rare for me to read fiction, but this is a classic !

Well this weekend sure went by fast !
On Saturday I went to the grocery store early, before the crowds set in. Spent $100 there. Then I went to AutoZone for oil change supplies. Spent $60 there. Saw a sign on the door at AutoZone saying that they are hiring FT and PT help. Tempted to apply for a PT job in the evenings. It would supplement what I am making and would be a safety net for me if I lose my job out at Disney.
When I got home and got the groceries put away, I did two loads of laundry. Stripped the bed and washed the sheets and pillow cases too.
Saturday evening it was COLD !! Brrrrr ! Rob and I met at Parliament House and ate a small dinner in their very very small restaurant there, then we got our tickets and saw "A Trailer Trash Christmas". It was very funny ! Then we just hung around P House and FMS for the next few hours. We went outside to the courtyard and listened to the Orlando Gay Chorus sing for a few minutes. I almost froze !
Last week I wore my leather out to the bar and it was around 60F - I ended up sweating. This week I wear a Hawaiian shirt and end up freezing ! Full Moon had a black party going on too, this was the weekend I should have worn my leather. They had some guys dancing on the bar inside. One of them was very nice-looking and beefy, although unnaturally smooth. Still, that is the one I would have taken home ! LOL !!
On Sunday I hung around the house all day. I ironed my shirts and made porkchops for lunch. The spare chops went into a plastic dish for today's lunch. Around 5 PM I went to Orlando to the Full Moon Saloon. It is fun to get out and socialize.
I talked to my old friend from the Navy, LT Dan, lastnight. Of course, he is a LCDR now, but "LT Dan" is so much more folksy since Forrest Gump immortalized the name. Dan flew into Orlando yesterday for a convention at the convention center. He is going to be here all week and we agreed to get dinner Tuesday night.
This morning I was up and showered and ready to return to DC-2 to work. Rob told me that I should weigh myself and see how much I have lost. He said that with all of the water I am drinking I should lose 10 lbs. the first week. I told him I did not want to weight frequently because it can be a demotivator too. I got on the scale - 3 lbs. lost since last week. No more of that for a month.
Started into Betsy's work again today. I swear, she did not do a damned thing those two weeks she was back ! There were change orders just piled up, and a big queue full of orders for me. Got the Bid Comparison Spreadsheet and FY05 Capital Expense Summary sheets caught up, now I will start to place the orders tomorrow.
The girls are really carrying on decorating their office doors ! Garlands and wreaths and wrapped gifts and lights. Really caught up in the holiday spirit ! J-list sent me e-mail confirming that my order is received and going to be filled. Some of the items are flying airmail from Japan. One of my tasks is to scan a family picture and bring it in so that we can make a tree ornament with it. I am doing that right now.
Tomorrow I am having a salad for lunch with some brussel's sprouts sauteéd in garlic and butter. Snack will be cheese sticks and a pear. If I am still hungry I can count out some pistachios for a snack.
I am beat. I went all out on my work today. It needs to get caught up.
More trouble in the Middle East. I guess the US Consulate in Saudi Arabia was attacked. This "War On Terror" is going to spill over into a regional fight. We would be better off breaking Iraq up into three little countries (which is what is going to happen anyway after a bunch of them die) and get our asses out of there. The Bushies will never admit they have made grave mistakes.

After a brief stop at 7-Eleven to get diet softdrinks (ran out of bottled water already), I headed down US 192 and could just see some hot air balloons going up. I see these balloons about 3 or 4 times a week.
On the radio I could hear the K92 FM Time-Saver Traffic Report..."we have an accident at SR 436 and Narcoosee Road, FHP is on the scene... and they have the tractor-trailer turned back over and pulled off to the side at John Young Parkway and I-4, but those nails are still scattered all over the road!" Dear God. I am not sure if I got the precise locations right, but those were among the reports I heard as I rocketted down the highway half-awake.
Andrea called to announce that traffic was bad and the she was going to be late. She wanted to know if I wanted to go to Dixie Stampede. I guess Oracle, one of our vendors, has done so well, that they have invited the Technology Team to go out. What the hell, I haven't seen Dixie Stampede yet, and they say the food is pretty good (as long as I skip the bread and desserts).
Heard a rumor that Glenn Sing will be leaving the Technology Team soon. That is too bad, because Glenn will be hard to replace. I wonder why everyone is so miserable here ? Another rumor I heard is that Ronelda was out because he she has a very sick brother she went to see and care for. I don't know. Rumors are not reliable sources of information anyway.
